-nods- Right, I know that. It’s just that things aren’t exactly going so well between Harmonia and I and I don’t want to make matters worse. I probably shouldn’t even be telling you this, but… Never mind. Of course I have a thrill-seeker side. I may be an uptight dead man now, but I was once a brave and ambitious king. Maybe it would do me a bit of good to get back in touch with that side of myself. … What did you have in mind?

-tilts head- Trouble in paradise? I guess chaos can happen without me. It’s just so much better when I’m here to help. -smile- Brave and ambitious king? I’d definitely like to see that side of you. You slayed one of Ares’s dragons, am I right? That’s the kind of fun I’m talking about. Don’t tell me you don’t miss being that guy. -nods- I have a few ideas. Still curious?

Against my better judgment, yes, I am. I did slay one of Ares’ dragons, but that was a long time ago. And as I recall, that resulted in eight years of slavery and I’d rather not do that again. I’m not sure I would describe that as “fun”. Upsetting the most powerful of all war gods was not my finest hour, but I suppose it showed courage nevertheless. -smiles sadly- Of course I miss being that guy. He was pretty smart for a mortal. You really think living on the edge will help make me him again?

Are you mad? My wife would kill me if she found out I was talking to you, let alone learning how to “embrace danger” from you. It is… tempting, but you can never tell her I said that! Blimey, what am I thinking? Being here has my thoughts all jumbled and twisted. Everything was so much simpler when I was technically dead. -pauses- What exactly would helping me entail? Now, I’m not saying I want you help! I’m just a bit curious is all.

-smirk- Just curious. Of course. Well if you’re going to learn to embrace danger, the first thing we need to do is bring out your inner thrill seeker. Don’t tell me you don’t have one either because all the mortals do. If they didn’t, I’d be out of a job. Danger gets the blood pumping. We just have to teach you to… like that. -quirks eyebrow- Your wife won’t find out if you don’t tell her, you know.

You’re not the first person who I’ve heard complaining that they’re bored here, and you probably won’t be the last. I think it would be best to keep my opinion to myself. I’m not entirely convinced they won’t get me killed. -sighs- But to make a long story short, no. I’m not a big fan of Zeus. I’m sorry for coming off as so uptight, but it’s hard to get comfortable when you could die any minute. It’s hardly comforting knowing I’m the only mortal here.

Well we’re all mortals here. Another of Zeus’s brilliant ideas. -nudges you- Relax. Everyone is too damn serious around here. What you need is a little fun. And yes, I’m talking to you specifically. I can’t imagine you get much with the little wife of yours… You need to learn to embrace danger. Live on the edge. Whatever it is you mortals call it. I can help with that. Just say the word.

All I know is that if he sent for you, there’s no telling who else he sent for. Ker, Deimos, Phobos, Moros… who knows. Maybe my opinion of Zeus is coloring my judgment, but this whole thing could turn into a complete disaster any minute. I guess you should know that better than anybody. -narrows eyes- Come on, it’s not every day I get called smart and good looking. Don’t lie to me, Eris. Are you flirting with me to bother Harmonia?

You think he did? -grin- Then we could really get a party started in here! I’ve been in this place a day and I’m already bored out of my mind. Opinion of Zeus? You not a fan? Can’t say I’ve met many people who are. -laugh- Lighten up would you? Maybe I just think you’re a good looking guy. Is that so bad?

Dangerous // Harmonia & Cadmus

peaceandharmonia:

Harmonia squeezed her eyes shut when she felt his hand pull out of hers. It hurt just as much as she’d expected it to, and yet for some reason she wasn’t prepared for it. Fighting felt so unnatural to her, so entirely wrong. It made her sick. She never knew how to handle it. She’d become instantly overwhelmed, especially when it was Cadmus. Sometimes she thought that she simply lacked the ability to get angry and would only get upset instead. Her eyes popped open when she felt his hand around hers, just as hers had been a moment ago. But the look on his face and the words out of his mouth made her wish she’d kept them closed.

“Then neither can I.” she replied. Her voice was already shaky and squeezing her eyes shut had allowed a single tear to escape down her cheek. How could he ask her to be happy after telling her that he would never be? She was too empathetic, especially when it came to him, not to feel his misery times ten. She always had been. Every time he frowned, she cried. Every time he cried, part of her heart broke. “I’ll never be happy when you’re so miserable. You should know that.”

Harmonia used her other hand to wipe the second tear away, biting her bottom lip to keep it from wobbling. “I know I can’t change your mind about being here. I know you too well to think I can.” She tried a smile, but that wobbled too and she had to give up on the effort with a quiet sniffle. “Isn’t there any way you could be happy here? Isn’t there something I could do or say to…” she stopped herself when her voice broke and took a shaky breath in and out. “Please just tell me what to do and I’ll do it.”

Cadmus looked at her, at where a tear had left a single light streak on her cheek, and gave her a sad and pitying look. “It’s not that simple.” He told her quietly. When she tried to look away again, he widened his eyes at her desperately. “I wish it were, but it’s not.” Even he didn’t like that answer, but it was the truest one he could give. It wasn’t simple or easy, and that’s why he hated it so much. He wanted two things, and it just about killed him to know he couldn’t have both.

“There’s only two things I want, and that’s to leave and to be with you.” He said, his eyes still fixed on hers, though he hated seeing her upset more than ever. “I can’t have both, and I know that. I have to chose between them, as much as I don’t want to.” The look in her eye told him that she was preparing for the worst, and he couldn’t blame her. Not long ago, it had been him thinking about Sod’s law. “By coming here, I chose you, and I don’t regret that decision. Put me back in Elysium and I would chose you every time.”

He clasped her hand tighter as he had a swallow hard against the lump forming in his throat at the sight of her tears. “Please don’t cry. It doesn’t matter if I’m happy here or not. I just want you to be happy. I-” His words were choked off and he shook his head, looking down at where he held onto her hand desperately. He made himself look back up at her again. “I’m so sorry. I never wanted this. We never should have come.”

Oh, I don’t doubt that. You’re highly skilled at what you do, and what you do isn’t very pleasant. Frankly, it only makes me more suspicious that peace isn’t really what Zeus is after. -laughs nervously- Smarts and good looks, huh? Eris, are you flirting with me?

Nobody has any hope of guessing what it is Zeus wants. I’m not really sure even Zeus does. He should know that I come with fun and chaos. Lots of it. If he wanted peace, I was the wrong girl to send for. -innocent blinking- Why would you say that?

Spice this place up? Coming from you, that makes me extremely nervous. When I heard what Zeus was trying to do, bring peace among the gods and such, I thought you would be the last person he invited. -brow furrows- I can’t imagine Harmonia will be very happy to hear that you’re here.

Oh, that’s right. You’re Harmonia’s husband. I almost forgot. -head tilts- Shame really. A king of such smarts and good looks… wasted on a pampered princess such as my counterpart. -smile- Trust me Caddy, Zeus is going to question inviting me.

Eris? Of all the gods and goddesses, I can’t say I was expecting to see you here. -blushes- That has got to be the first time I’ve ever in my life been called a “cutie”…

Then you must not know the right people. -huff- I can’t say I was expecting to see me here either. Zeus babbling about peace and he invites the goddess of discord? Let’s just say I’m hoping to spice this place up.
